How importing works
-
Export your drives
Get a CSV file out of your old app; the steps for each app are below. An Excel file works too once you save it as CSV in Numbers or Excel.
-
Save it to Files, or email it to yourself
-
Open it with Tenths
Or go to Settings › Your data › Import from another app. You see the drives and the deduction before anything is added.
Tenths finds the date, miles, places and purpose columns on its own, even when the file starts with a title or a summary, and skips drives already in your log. It recalculates your deduction at the IRS rate for each date. Drives without a business or personal column come in to sort, in Drives › To review. The file is read on your iPhone and never uploaded.
Everlance
A CSV file by email, on the free plan.
In the Everlance app, tap the gear icon at the top right of the home screen, then Export Data. Choose your dates with the calendar icon and tap Export Data. Everlance emails two reports, one for mileage and one for transactions; the mileage report is the one to import. On the website, exports are under Data Exports › New Export.
From Everlance’s help page How to Generate a Data Export.
Stride
A CSV mileage report by email.
In the Stride app, tap the Taxes tab, scroll down and tap Get My Report. Choose the tax year, choose Select All for your jobs, and enter your email. Stride emails a few reports, usually within a few minutes; the mileage report, a CSV file, is the one to import. It lists each entry’s date and distance but not where you went, so the drives come in without places.
From Stride’s help pages How do I export my deduction report? and What is a CSV file and how do I open my tax reports?
Driversnote
An Excel file, saved as CSV. The free plan reports up to 15 trips a month.
In the Driversnote app, tap the Reports icon at the bottom of the screen, then + at the top right. Choose your dates, and set the trip type to business and personal to get every trip. Tap Save, then the download icon, and choose Excel. A report covers one vehicle and one workplace, so if you have more than one, make a report for each. Open each file in Numbers or Excel, save it as CSV and import it. On the website, it’s Reports › Create report.
From Driversnote’s help pages How to: create a report and Is there a free trial?
TripLog
A CSV file inside a zip. The free plan reports only the last 7 days.
In the TripLog app, tap Report on the Trips page and choose your time period. TripLog makes a zip file for you to email from Apple’s Mail app: send it to yourself, save the zip to Files and tap it to unzip, then import the CSV inside. For more than the last 7 days you need TripLog Premium, or its free 7-Day Premium Pass, which a free account can use once a calendar year to run a full report.
From TripLog’s help pages Reports Navigation and TripLog Basic.
Gridwise
A CSV file with Gridwise Plus. On the free plan the report is a PDF, which Tenths can’t import.
In the Gridwise app, open the Earnings tab, scroll to the bottom and tap Export Tax Reports. Choose CSV, then your dates, and tap Send. Gridwise emails the report, which can take a few hours.
From Gridwise’s help page Exporting Tax Reports.
Hurdlr
A spreadsheet, saved as CSV.
In the Hurdlr app, tap the three dots at the top left, then Reports › Mileage Detail List (Spreadsheet). Choose your dates and business, then tap Export Report to download or email it. The spreadsheet has separate tabs for business, personal and pending trips: in Numbers or Excel, save each tab you want as a CSV file, and import them one at a time.
From Hurdlr’s help pages How do I export my reports? and My spreadsheet report has a tab that says Pending.
A spreadsheet, or any other app
Any CSV file with a date column and a miles or distance column works, including a log you kept yourself. Tenths also reads start and end times, where you started and ended, business or personal, purpose, notes, parking and tolls when they’re there, with column names in English or Spanish. Kilometers are converted to miles.
